"Music is the Reason!" – Williamstown RSL – The Cnr of Melbourne Rd & Ferguson Street Williamstown – 03 9397 7642

WOW Honour Roll & Blues Buddies

We started on a wing and a prayer in Dec of 2001.

A group of Roots music fans whose regular watering hole was the Williamstown RSL pooled together $50 each to put on a gig featuring the Hornets. With the blessing of the RSL management we put the word around Town that blues music was coming to the West. Up until that time we had to travel on the road and over the river to catch quality live music.

It was a gamble but it worked and gave us the confidence to build on that days success. Here we are six years later an Incorporated Club hosting the best roots musicians in the land and also getting calls from overseas touring artists who want to come Way Out West. As the great Paul Kelly song goes ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’.

We now find ourselves an integral part of the Roots music scene. We are so proud to have been able to create a much needed venue in the West. If you have not been to the Club then please come down and check us out, we guarantee to make your day a good one.

Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society – Victorian -Tasmanian Blues Music Awards 2011

Allan Stafford Award for service to the blues music industry

Presented to Rob Rowe, President of Way Out West Blues and Roots Club.

Each year in conjunction with the Victorian -Tasmanian Blues Music Awards, the MBAS committee presents an award to the person who has given exceptional support to the blues music industry.

In 2011 it was presented to Rob Rowe, President of Way Out West Blues and Roots Club at the Vic-Tas Presentation night Sunday 21st August at the Royal Standard Hotel, West Melbourne, home to the MBAS.

Rob has been long-standing President of WOW, and in that capacity has presented many gigs especially those of local blues artists as well as interstate and international artists too. He has been a big supporter of other major blues music events in the district of Williamstown. WOW has financially supported MBAS events through sponsorship as well as Rob lending a helping hand to the MBAS major event each year – Blues Performer of the Year. As manager of the Williamstown Bendigo Bank, Rob has provided personal and specialised banking services to blues musicians. This service would not be possible if not for Rob’s passion and untiring work for blues music and blues musicians.

Robert Rowe, the very worthy recipient of the Allan Stafford Award 2011.
